The humble tree fern here lives in wet and wild west coast of Tasmania where they live in abundance, often up to 3m tall. The ghostly silhouette design on this cup sits slightly atop and almost dominate by a dark orange oval of inset coloured clay, the colour reminiscent of the Queen River that that flows through Queenstown. The Queen River runs orange and empty, no longer able to support life as result of a century of mining runoff from the surrounding hills. Tree ferns are ancient dinosaurs of trees, adapted to live in the cold, wet of Tasmania all the way to the tropics of north Queensland, but we are all vulnerable to the changing environment.
These cups are small, just 7.5cm tall and holding 220mL, but the slightly flared lip and gently rounded edge make them a pleasure to drink from when you want a smaller serve.
